A GLEAM OF HOPE...

We are honored to be given a column in the BIGGEST & widely read newspaper in East Malaysia, The Borneo Post.

The column is called PAWS & TAILS and since its the first of its kind in East Malaysia, we will give our views on the developments/status of Animal Welfare in East Malaysia as well as some tips for all pet owners / animal lovers in the state.

The column's main objective however is to spread the awareness on animal welfare and to inculcate compassion towards animals within the society - particularly to the younger generations.

The first print was suppose to be with visuals attached. Visuals of strays saved by members and had survived the abuse & neglect by previous owners. We want the public to give them a chance by giving them a new hope and chance to live and to love.

Nevertheless, the first print gives us a gleam of hope. That proves the journey has just started. A journey that is full of trials and errors. But its all worth it at the end of the day - seeing more and more people in East Malaysia opening up their hearts and minds to respect animals.

We hope you can be part of this journey too.

Our FIRST pet project have just started too! For more details please click HERE. Do take part and help us kick start this project with great success!

God Bless!

REPORT ANIMAL ABUSE

What will you do if you SEE or HEAR animals that is abused? Abuse means inflicting pain and discomfort to the animals to the point that it got hurt, wounded and eventually abandoned or neglected.

If you hear heart stopping cries, yelpings and see obvious wounds inflicted on the animals, and the pet owner is violent / abusive - DO NOT hesitate to contact the relevant authorities, eg: Police / Bomba (apart from the SPCA). You may call Bomba if the animals are stucked in a monsoon drain, trees or anywhere that is dangerous or inaccessible for individuals to go.

In the event that the distress call is not attended to accordingly or you were brushed aside (there are some employees within the authorities departments that are NOT aware or ignorant of the existing law), just mention that you are calling to report the abuse based on the MALAYSIA ANIMAL ACT ORDINANCE 1953, Act No. 427-428 (that relevant authorities must do their job to rescue distressed animals.

BUT PLEASE do not abuse this privilege just for the fun of it (some curious people could do that).

You have the right to remain silent towards the abuse, and if you do, the animals pay the price. Do your part to help STOP animals abuse. Teach the young ones to respect all living beings.

It starts the moment you finish reading this.

CRUELTY TO ANIMALS, WHY CAN'T THEY STOP?

Take a close, long and hard look at these pictures. What did you see?

Think about it for a moment. Do you think they deserve this?

How about if someday God exchange human over animals and we are all treated this way? Can we endure this? Even if we claimed that we are much more superior than them, how could we possibly tolerate this? Even at war when human was tortured by another human, how many can stand the sufferings?

Now imagine we inflict this to them. The pain, the silent cries, the only difference is that they do not speak our language to explain how they feel.

Why cant human learn to co-exist? Why is it so quick for human to blame the animals when things go wrong? When will WE EVER THINK like the human God wants us to be?

The answer is all within yourselves. If you have the conscience to make things right, help us educate one another. Be kind to animals whenever you see them - even strays. Speak up for them whenever they are abused, neglected - they need your help to stop the sufferings. Help us promote Rescue, Rehome,Spay & Neuter.

Got IDEAS?

We're planning to come up with activities for ANIMAL FRIENDS members and they will cover in 3 parts of categories. You can take part even if you dont have pets :-)

1) Activities for pet owners - and their pets too!
Jungle trekking, mini marathon were some of the ideas that we have. Adventurous & outdoorsy pet owners can bring their pets for a good exercise on a weekend through activities of this kind.

2) Awareness, education & campaign drive
School visits (fun presentation & exciting role plays)..hmmm..what else?

3) Fundraising & marketing
We will soon have items sold under the ANIMAL FRIENDS umbrella! We will need to start raising funds now to materialise and support our future outreach programmes.

Got more brilliant ideas? Share with us! Email to us at myanimalsfriends@gmail.com

If you want to volunteer to do any of the above, let us know!

Welcome! Selamat Datang! Bienvenue! Grata! 欢迎!

" Life is a life - whether in a Cat, or Dog or Man. There is NO difference between animals or man. The idea of DIFFERENCE is human conception for Man's own advantage..."
When we first set up ANIMALS FRIENDS group in Facebook, it was out of intention to highlight animals abuse / neglect via another channel as SPCA KK is the only group known in Sabah. The group was formed on September 2011, and currently growing in terms of its members base.

Our objective is simple - we want to educate the society on Animals Welfare awareness and to inculcate compassion in the society in particular to the younger generation.

Our main platform is to promote RESCUE, REHOME, SPAY & NEUTER.

Our hope is that someday, we will be able to own, develop a sanctuary in Sabah for animals to live and spend the rest of their remaining lives unharmed while at the same time promote heavily on Spay & Neuter programme to ensure proper control in strays populations in the State.

It is our heartiest pleasure to welcome ALL of you to join us in this effort and help us materialise this in our very own homeland.

There will be lots of activities coming your way and each one of you can help us help those who can't speak nor defend themselves.
